Today was my first day at work. Well, I made it to the general area all right. I was told at the tourist office that it would be right there when I got off the subway. I did a huge block and asked like 6 people. NO ONE knew where it was. I was finally getting a little closer as the street names started to look like the one I was looking for only one or two letters off. The last guy I asked had no idea and he could barely speak English, but was very helpful, and called my supervisor! Turns out, I was right in front of the building, so Juha came out and met me:)

The building was a very plain office building, with restaurants and bars on the bottom floors, so I never would have spotted it. There wasn't even a sign. There was a small one inside the hallway, but it wasn't in English. They got a brand new building, so I will be with them in September for the move and will at least have the chance to see the new building :) I think it will be closer to my apartment, so that's a bonus because right now, its quite a trek.

I did typical first day stuff, got a tour, got introduced to people, and learned a little about the study location. I got set up on email and on the computers, and got a key card to get around the building. For the majority of the summer, I will be out on the Aranda doing plankton studies.
